PSA: Every week, we get a handful of job seekers showing up at our office, trying to stand out. Now, I’m guessing someone out there is still advising people that this is a great idea—like, "Go knock on doors; make an impression!" And pre-COVID, maybe that was...debatable. But these days, it's more like a time-wasting exercise because—spoiler alert—not everyone is even there.Look, I get it. You want to be remembered. But coming unannounced is more likely to make you "that person" than "the one." Trust me, there are better ways to make an impression, ones that don't involve being the office surprise of the day. Here are a few tips :💡 Specifity matters: If you do show up , Saying "Can I have a job?" isn't the best opener. Specificity is your friend here! Same rule on the phone.💡 Follow-up finesse. Sending a follow-up message one second after submitting an application might just be a little...eager.💡 LinkedIn etiquette counts. A "Hi" with no follow-up? It’s the networking equivalent of a blank stare. And yes, there are the classics: research the company, apply online, network with purpose, and target companies that align with your skills.Moral of the story? A thoughtful, strategic approach will always beat the unsolicited drop-in.You are very welcome. Save the Myki fare buy yourself a coffee.

Definitely a tough one - in a similar context - I have had candidates mail (as in post) or drop their applications in all sorts of lovely creative formats - however the reality is due to GDPR legislation in Europe, these need to then be converted to digital format and a disclaimer sent to request permission and then the physical application destroyed. The intent is great but the execution is unfortunately challenging and very time consuming.

Great coaching Varsha. Some people, either through inexperience or because they’ve not been in the market for awhile, are miguided and it (sadly) can hurt their chances. I’m glad that there are people out there like you, showing kindness and consideration by helping them cut through.

Couldn't agree more with the Varsha. Turning up unannounced, hoping the right person is in and can talk to you, won't always leave the best impression. Register online, connect on Linked In (with more than a 'Hi") and tee up a phone call

Love this Varsha, as brutal as it may sound, this approach definitely doesnt work when in fact most who knock doors carry a paper resume rather than registering online where they could get a better response.

A different kind of share today! I am so thrilled to share that 2 of my mentees, both very talented professional( I am a little biased ), have secured new roles! 🎉 To celebrate this, I want to share some key areas we focused on that helped them navigate the Australian job market and may help others (take what you like):🌸 Mindset Matters: Understanding your unique strengths is crucial for building confidence.🌸 Review: Resume, LinkedIn etc etc.🌸 Cracking the Aussie Job Code: Navigating the Australian job market can be challenging, but with the right strategies, it's conquerable.🌸 Streamlined Application Process: A structured approach to applying for multiple roles can save time and increase your chances of success.🌸 Post-Application Follow-Up: Persistence and effective follow-up are essential.🌸 Celebrate Small Wins: Every step forward is a victory! Coaching them through this process and empowering their independence has been incredibly rewarding. It's definitely warmed 🔥 me up during this cold Melbourne winter!

Last year, there were 300,000 new dads, and sadly, one in fourwill have faced perinatal depression or anxiety in the first year of their child’s life. That’s 205 dads a day.Imagine the weight and impact of that on families and communities. Thankfully, with your help, we’re going tochange the culture of fatherhood for the better and make sure these dads and their families are resourced andsupported.I have just signed up for my walk at Jells Park, there are a few locations to chose national you can join one or start your own!
