Thankfully, in this instance, fans were talking about Julie Bowen for all the right reasons. The star was all over the headlines last year, after she openly discussed a certain surgery after the comedy series.

What made things that much more remarkable is the fact that she felt empowered to share her own story after View host Sunny Hostin admitted to a plastic surgery of her own.

Julie Bowen Was Praised After Confirming Her Stomach Surgery After Modern Family

It was a moment fans weren't expecting last year in 2023, and it all came about after Sunny Hostin shared her own experience with plastic surgery. This would lead to Bowen openly speaking about her plastic surgery, something fans never knew about. The Modern Family star admitted she waited until after the show to get the surgery done, as it was something that was always in the back of her mind.

“Yes, I got a breast reduction and lift recently,” Hostin said.

“Oh, God, I love you,” Bowen said. “I love that.” She continues, “I finally got the stomach fixed,” Bowen said, clutching her belly. “Finally, after all these years. They ripped it open, the twins just ripped it. And I said, ‘As soon as “Modern Family” is done … I’ll get it fixed.’ But it was 11 years! So 11 years later, we wrapped on Friday and Monday they went in and they do you like a sneaker.”

It was an empowering moment for both Hostin and Bowen, sharing private information that most celebs likely wouldn't have. Bowen went on to admit that at one point in her life, it was all about taking care of her kids, and nothing else mattered, especially when it came to her appearance.

“All I cared about was these little kids. I didn’t even notice everything else that was going on … I had a life and boobs I could tuck into my shoes.”

• The reaction to both Hostin and Bowen sharing their stories was extremely positive. Hostin herself admits it made her feel a lot better.
• “I thought I would feel shame, like, ‘Oh my God, I’m doing plastic surgery like all these crazy celebrities.’ But I don’t feel shame at all,” she said. “And I hope sharing my story will help more people. If they’re feeling so body-conscious, the way I was — they can do what they need to do to feel better.”

Julie Bowen Admits Motherhood Was Much More Of A Struggle Outside Of Modern Family

Bowen made it clear, her life as a mom was a lot more organized as Claire on Modern Family, compared to her real-life outside the show's character.

Speaking with Today, Bowen talked Modern Family and motherhood. "Well, they are less organized than my "Modern Family," I can tell you that. It’s definitely more of a challenge. We have these scenes on "Modern Family" that we call “The Morning Rush,” where it’s all the kids getting ready to go to school, me making breakfast and all this stuff."

She continues, "I remember when we first started doing those scenes, I had babies and my morning rush was totally different."

As for her life home, Bowen can understand how it might've influenced her comedic style on television. Nonetheless, her kids don't see the comparison.

• "But, I definitely think that I understand why family comedies are so universally loved and so universally watched and accepted. Whether it’s a movie or it’s a TV show, it’s relatable because it’s an experience that all of us have had in some way, shape or form.
• Bowen concludes, "It’s just so universally binding that we’ve all gone through this thing where you live with the people you both love and want to murder every day."

Another thing fans didn't realize throughout her career is the fact that she was raising a family during her rise on the comedy series.

Ariel Winter Also Went Under The Knife During Her Time On Modern Family

Ariel Winter got a different type of surgery. Similar to Bowen, she had her own struggles behind the scenes, which included a legal battle with her mom, along with a breast reduction surgery. Winter went from a 32F to 32D. The biggest part of the surgery was to reduce the pain she was feeling on the regular.

“I couldn't sit up straight. It was always super uncomfortable for me to sleep. It was uncomfortable to sit. It was uncomfortable to walk,” she said.

“I just didn't feel right and I did it for myself,” Winter said. "That was so not the reason I got it ... I don't care what other people think about me."

Winter added that the surgery changed her life for all the right reasons. Not only did the pain go away, but she also gained a lot more confidence from the surgery as well. Though, of course, she still received hate online for some of the scars showing in candid photos. Thankfully, the actress didn't let the comments get to her, developing a thicker skin of her own during her run in the spotlight.

Sarah Hyland and Sofia Vergara were other names on the show that also got surgery done.
