If it's a gate upgrade it could be fairly easy to tell if that seat number is shows on the GIDS board as being an upgraded seat. But how would they know if the person is upgraded at the window before t-24 if the person is paid or a free upgrade or an RU/GU or miles upgrade?

There were two times someone next to me complained to the FA about severe cat allergies. Both times the seatmates were free upgrades. They were told that first class was full and that we were both free upgrades and I trumped her on the upgrade list and they would be happy to seat her towards the back of the plane so her allergies wouldn't be bothered. Both cases the people were suddenly able to suffer through their allergies for the flight (and one was a long DTW/LAX flight LOL). Reminds me of the people that need wheelchairs to preboard in Detroit and can't get out of their seats fast enough when the plane touches down at Vegas and are suddenly cured. I guess having to give up a first class upgrade suddenly cures a pet allergy as well.

Traveled on the same ticket as my 2.5 year old son. My wife traveled on a separate ticket with her cousin/our son's babysitter using her Amex Companion Cert. We had a 90 minute delay and our son was getting tired and cranky. Wife wanted me to take him into the lounge for some snacks and maybe some juice. I told her Delta would charge $29 for this and that I really dont want to bring a cranky toddler into a skyclub. She responded "but you have status, they should make an exception for you." I never entered the skyclub, but i still got a chuckle out of the situation.

As a PM, my UG cleared at the window and we sat in 2A/2B. There were still several upgrades that cleared at T-30 including 1A/1B. While my son slept through most of the flight, he was loud and whiny during boarding and the first 10-15 minutes we were in the air. The couple in front of us were quite upset, staring daggers at me, complaining to each other about parents who can't take care of their children, etc... (lets not start a discussion on kids in F or if i should have given the seat in F to my wife - those horses are already dead).

When we're airborne and the FA starts taking drink orders, the husband decides to get angry at the flight attendant. I fly Delta all the time and you should be treating us better. I didnt obtain silver status on your airline so that I could sit with bratty children in first class. At this point my son was already sleeping so the FA kind of brushed him off. Anyhow, i get you may have felt my son was annoying but lets not pretend that your 25,000 miles makes you king of the skies.

I've had similar reactions when flying with cats so it's just not kids people complain about, they also complain about pets (and pet owners pay Delta an ABSURD fee to bring their pets on board with them and to rub salt in the wound the pet is suppose to count as your carryon even though the pet isn't taking up any bin space but fortunately I've never had an issue taking my rollerbag with me when travelling with a pet). I've actually heard people say pets have no business being in an airplane cabin (I'd love to know how I can transport a pet if they can't go in the cabin, my cat is a Burmese, and like a pug dog, can't safely fly in cargo even if I were ok with it due their noses, huge safety issue).

Flew PDX-SEA last Sunday. As a DM (on an award ticket “Do You Know Who I Am?”: The Definitive Thread of DYKWIA Stories - FlyerTalk Forums (15)), got upgraded at the 5-day window... generally a very, very easy route for upgrades, but it's a 25-minute (30 at best) flight with limited drink service (not that it really matters on such a short flight), so makes no difference to me really where I sit.

Left the SC to board and saw another man (clearly a business traveler based on the attire, but it's Sunday....?) arguing with the gate agent about how he didn't want to gate-check/pink tag his carry-on. And it was clearly not going to fit in the tiny CR7 overhead bins. He argued that F pax shouldn't have to gate check their bags and wait for them later.

He lost the battle and reluctantly scanned his boarding pass--Silver.

Also barked at the FA right when he got on board to take his jacket. Then threw a fit when FA said they weren't catered for limes for his G&T. Never said please or thank you.

Man...

I split my flying time between DL and WN. I generally prefer DL service, but WN is much better for (short) flights with pets. Their pet fee is only $95, and the open seating means people can choose to sit elsewhere if they have a problem with a feline neighbor.

Happens all the time from PBI to NYC, when there are 30+ pax who need wheelchairs in PBI but when they land in NYC, all of a sudden they're good to go without them -- we call those miracle flights.

Why is it not DYKWIA behavior to say, "I'm a million-billion-miler and you're not (and probably on an upgrade), so if you don't like my crying baby/whining toddler/dog you can sit in the back!"?

That's certainly DYKWIA to say 'i'm platnium and youre gold therefore i'm more important than you.'

My point from the original story was - 'you're a silver who was upgraded at the gate so just be happy you're sitting in first and dont act like your life is ruined because you're sitting in front of a toddler.' also dont pretend that 'just because you fly 25,000 miles a year delta owes you the world's most tranquil flight.'

If you were flying paid J to Tokyo you might have more of a leg to stand on.

I've noticed any Florida city, Phoenix and Vegas seem to be miracle flights. Especially LAS. Last time I flew to Vegas was on a wide body and we used 2L to board and debplaned. When we landed at LAS the FA asked passengers to allow first to deplane first and an FA as standing the aisle trying to allow F to deplane first and a guy I remember who was a PITA at the gate and had to have a wheelchair to board was in the second row of C+ and was trying to push everyone out of the way to get off the plane. Amazing how he needed a wheelchair to board yet was able to get his luggage out of the bin and shove his way through to try to get to the quarter slots“Do You Know Who I Am?”: The Definitive Thread of DYKWIA Stories - FlyerTalk Forums (27). When I left LAS the inbound was delayed and I was at the gate when it arrived and there were a bunch of wheelchairs and everyone except two got pushed back empty.

I honestly don't understand people doing that. I broke my femur a few years ago and couldn't weight bear for a few months and I couldn't get wait to stop relying on the wheelchair and walker and walk again. A good friend of mine is a flight attendant for Southwest and when I was complaining about being in a wheelchair and the physical therapy he told me to take a flight to LAS to gamble and if I was like 90 percent of the passengers on his vegas flights that boarded with wheelchairs I would experience a miracle and not be able to get off the plane fast enough without assistance“Do You Know Who I Am?”: The Definitive Thread of DYKWIA Stories - FlyerTalk Forums (28)

Delta charges an extra for a miracle cure on flights.
